The history of drawing began more than 40 thousand years ago, when prehistoric man marked the scenes of his daily life on rocks as a way of communicating and preserving his record. In Ancient Egypt, drawing was not intended to create a faithful image of reality. It was used in temples as a graphic medium to perpetuate life beyond death. The “Law of Frontality” and hieroglyphic writing prevailed. In the 1st century AD, there're records in China of the first paper manufacturing process made from textile waste. In the Middle Ages, the drawing served religious causes, narrating biblical scenes and the lives of saints. From the Renaissance onwards, drawing is supported by technical and scientific knowledge. The study of perspective and proportion made possible the accurate reproduction of reality. In mid 19th century, academicism resumed the principles of art from Greco-Roman antiquity, seeking to recreate the ideal beauty standards of the Academies of Fine Arts. Industrial drawing emerged with the Industrial Revolution, focusing on the drawing of machines and equipment. Artistic trends express a constant restlessness and the freedom to create your own rules. Currently, drawing is assumed as a support for the impression of original and innovative visions of reality.
